You say 'Brisbane', I say 'Brissy'

Aug 7th:  Slightly less confusion with the seat swapping this morning.  Goran and I are in the back of the bus today, with Sharie in the 'Weather Seat'.  Sue has designated the front most seats, across the aisle from the seats behind Jeff, our driver, for soothsayers of the weather.  Sharie is to give us her meteorological predictions for the day.  "Partly cloudy, with clearing skies later in the afternoon."

We're travelling along the Gold Coast, to the capital of Queensland - Brisbane - or 'Brissy', as the locals call it.  Sue explained that Australians like to shorten names. ... Because Brisbane takes too long to say?  We drove by a McDonalds that advertised a 'Brekkie (breakfast) Special'.

The first stop in the city wasn't too impressive, just a long line of high rises, restaurants and retail stores clogging the shoreline, with construction for more underway.  We spent our short stop looking for cold medicine, since my cold has moved into my chest.

From there, we headed to downtown Brissy.  It was more interesting, with its mix of architectural styles and botanical gardens.

We left the city to catch a ferry to Tangalooma, On Moreton Island (just off the coast of Brisbane), to stay at the Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort.

We arrived on the island in darkness, where our island guide had our room keys ready.  We dropped our luggage off in the room, then scouted for someplace to eat.  We found Rotunda on the Beach, where the staff was completely inept.  Our waiter, Shane, tried so hard to make us happy; but, he didn't have a food service bone in his body.  It's a good thing tipping is not expected in Australia.

We've opted for the whale watching tour tomorrow!
