In April of this year, after 18 months of meticulous planning and a ridiculously restrictive savings plan, Goran, Sharie and I were packed and anxious to embark on our 'Down Under' adventure.
Then, that damned Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland erupted!
After 3 days of waiting, delayed flights became cancelled flights and we had to unpack the suitcases.
We were able to coordinate a 5 day consolation road trip to Italy to ease the disappointment; but, it took 2 more months of renegotiating leave from work, threatening and haggling with our travel agent, and peripherally watching for another natural event before we departed.
It was July now, the middle of winter in Australia.
Our route: Stuttgart - London - Hong Kong - Sydney - north along the eastern coast to Cairns - Alice Springs and Uluru - Melbourne!
Day 1: Goran and Sharie - Ready for adventure!
